Caroline and Neil’s Wedding Cake

I was so pleased to be asked to make the wedding cake for Caroline. Sammy (Caroline’s daughter) had given me the request of a three tiered cake with models of the bride and groom and three grandsons. The groom and grandsons were to wear kilts, and the groom was to wear a blue wig. I was given free reign to come up with the rest of the design.

Knowing the bride from long ago I remembered her trade mark was her big smile. After a chat over Facebook (as it was a bit too far to travel for a face to face consultation) the design was finalised. I was lucky enough to be invited to the wedding reception, to finally meet some long lost faces. It was a brilliant night and I was able to see Sammy’s reaction when I installed the cake. That’s the best part, seeing the requester see the cake for the first time.

This cake has three tiers – two vanilla sponge with vanilla butter cream and raspberry filling, and one chocolate with caramel filling. The figures were made based on photographs, and the kilts were hand printed and pleated. Everyone could recognise who the figures were supposed to be; even the groom in the blue wig. It turns out that the groom proposed at an eighties event while wearing a blue wig –  I love how I can make cakes so personal for the recipients.

Congratulations Caroline and Neil, and I can’t wait for next mad night out with the girls. It was really really fab to see you all. Thanks for the invite and asking me to make the cake (which, by the way, traveled well from East Calder to Aberdeen). Dead chuffed with it all. xxx
